Restore Balance to the Force: The Story of Hesti's first seed

The first time I watched Sons of Anarchy, I was hooked. The storytelling was sharp, the world was immersive, and the writing had that rare gravity that pulls you in. It quickly joined my personal pantheon of shows like Game of Thrones, This Is Us, and The Walking Dead.


One day, I met someone who was part of a real motorcycle club. Naturally, I asked him what he thought of the show. He told me it was great — but also incredibly hard to watch. “It feels too real,” he said.


I remember pausing. I loved the show, but I couldn’t agree or disagree with him. It wasn’t my world. I hadn’t lived that life. I didn’t carry those scars. It wasn’t my place to comment on his truth.


Years later, when The Bear came out — a show built around the culture and chaos of restaurant life — I finally understood what he meant.


For the first time in my life, a show spoke directly to the part of me shaped by years in the hospitality industry. The systems, the language, the pressure, the camaraderie — it all felt both alive and uncomfortably familiar. The show was mesmerizing, but also difficult to watch. It felt like reliving every high and low, every meltdown and breakthrough, every celebration and collapse I’d experienced in restaurants over the years.


The truth about this industry — the people who choose to live this life, the ones who burn with real passion, the ones who endure the hardship — is that we didn’t choose it because it’s fun. Or because it’s an easy way to pay bills. We chose it because, at the end of the day, after all the chaos, the burnout, the mental strain, there’s a quiet reward waiting for us. A sense that we’ve done something meaningful with our time. That we’ve contributed to the happiness and well‑being of our community’s social health.


And somehow, that’s enough to wake up the next day and do it all over again.


This culture has existed since the birth of hospitality. But let’s be honest for a second. Compared to tech, real estate, or other high‑paying, operationally advanced industries, hospitality doesn’t exactly sit at the top of the list of ideal career paths. In fact, our industry has a lot of catching up to do.


The money isn’t great for most. The systems we rely on are often outdated, fragmented, or outright broken. I’ve worked in restaurants that ran like symphonies — every station in harmony, every workflow intentional. I’ve also worked in places held together by duct tape, adrenaline, and trauma bonding. I’ve seen POS systems that empower teams, and others that sabotage them. I’ve witnessed brilliant setups and naive disasters. I’ve learned how the right tools can elevate a team — and how the barely adequate breaks them.


Regardless of the effort we invest. The cycle remains. We learn. We thrive. We face new challenges. We troubleshoot. We keep moving. And we repeat.


At some point in our careers, we all end up asking ourselves the same question.

Was it worth it?


But what if, in a better world, there was another path?

What if there was a way to increase the reward and dramatically reduce the weight required to reach it?

What if there was a way into a better hospitality life?


What if... something could restore balance to the Force?
